From Exhausted to Flourishing Leadership
Many leaders are exhausted by the gap between who they are and how they lead.
I spent 22 years as a Marine and Navy Chaplain, watching brilliant leaders burn out because they led from external expectations rather than internal conviction. The cost was devastating—not just to their effectiveness but also to their souls and families.
There had to be a better way.
That search led me to discover leadership from within—an approach grounded in authentic calling and spiritual depth that transforms both the leader and everyone they touch.
Now, as an Endorsed Life and Leadership Coach, Spiritual Director in training, and author of Leadership from Within: Navigating the Path Toward Soul-Driven Success, I help value-driven leaders bridge that gap. My Doctor of Ministry in Leadership Renewal & Coaching from Regent University provides the framework, but two decades of personal transformation work—mine and my clients'—provide the heart.
The result? Leaders who live with intention flourish personally and create the same transformation in others.
As a Christian, husband, father, and grandfather, I understand that authentic leadership isn't just about professional success—it's about integrating who you are with how you lead across every area of life.
Forged in the Crucible of Leadership
Standing on the USS Oak Hill's catwalk, I watched helicopters disappear into a combat zone, carrying 150 Marines toward an uncertain fate. One wouldn't return—and I would conduct his memorial service. In that moment, fifteen years of military chaplaincy crystallized into one truth: leadership demands everything, but sustainable rhythms make the difference between thriving and merely surviving.
My Story
During my shipboard deployment with 800 Sailors and Marines, I learned what it means to lead under pressure—counseling broken marriages, managing mental health crises, offering religious support, then doing it all again the next day.
The mission never stopped. The demands never lessened. Yet in that crucible, I discovered something that would transform how I understood Christian leadership.
What I've Learned
Four rhythms separate leaders who flourish from those who burn out:
Spiritual Rhythms: Anchoring to God's presence when everything else shakes
Physical Rhythms: Maintaining energy and health for long-term service
Relational Rhythms: Preserving connections that matter most
Emotional Rhythms: Processing stress and trauma without losing yourself
These aren't theoretical concepts—they're survival tools forged in real-life pressure. Whether you pastor a church, lead a nonprofit, serve in missions, or navigate corporate leadership, you face similar challenges: endless demands, emotional weight, physical exhaustion, and strained relationships.
My Mission Today
Christian leaders don't have to choose between faithful service and personal flourishing. The same rhythms that sustained me during deployment can sustain you in your calling. Through writing, spiritual direction, and coaching, I help leaders build sustainable patterns that honor their mission and humanity.
Your calling is too important to burn out over. Your family is too precious to sacrifice. Your health is too valuable to neglect. Let's build rhythms that honor all of them.
