My book Leadership from Within is for Christian leaders who desire to live and lead intentionally while flourishing personally and professionally.

A thoughtful and refreshing take on leadership, built on four essential life patterns. This book is a wake-up call for anyone tempted to lead others before first leading themselves. Practiced consistently, these patterns can safeguard against moral and ethical failure while nurturing both personal and professional well-being.

What It’s About

  • A person sitting on a rocky mountain ledge, overlooking a sea of clouds with a sunrise or sunset in the background.

    The Vision

The genesis of this book was a Navy deployment aboard a Navy ship along with 800 Navy and Marine Corps personnel. This floating village became a crucible, revealing the critical importance of four key rhythms (relational, spiritual, emotional, and physical) determining whether I merely survived or truly flourished.

    Life Rhythms

Effective leadership begins with self-care. Holistic soul care encompasses four life rhythms: Relational (meaningful connections), Spiritual (listening to God's voice), Emotional (engaging feelings with discernment), and Physical (wellness as your foundation).

    The Impact

By the end of Leadership from Within, you will have the information and tools to develop a holistic, sustainable life rhythm that will help you live and lead intentionally.

  • "Leadership from Within is the kind of book every leader needs—yet many don’t slow down enough to read this message. Greg Woodard reminds us that true success doesn’t come from hustling harder but from leading with healthy rhythms.  As a coach and speaker helping men win at home and work, I see many leaders running on empty. Greg’s four rhythms—relational, spiritual, emotional, and physical—offer a practical roadmap to refuel from the inside out. This book isn’t theory. It’s wisdom from years in the trenches of leadership and ministry and seeing what works. I encourage you to read this book if you want sustainable leadership at home and work."

  • "In my research of 'finishing well' for Christian leaders since the late 1980’s I have never found a more thorough approach than Dr. Woodard’s engaging read on leadership. His authentic stories of developing the right rhythms in our unique circumstances is compelling and relevant to both existing and emerging leaders today. I would require this in every leadership curriculum that wants to build leaders that last."

  • "Greg draws from his Navy chaplaincy experiences to arm Christian leaders against burnout and moral collapse, using four vital rhythms that fuel ministry from spiritual overflow rather than exhaustion. He offers practical actions to navigate soul care into our chaotic lives. A must for those who want to practice authentic, powerful, Christ-centered ministry."

Carleton Birch, Converge Director of Chaplaincy, Chaplain (Colonel, USA (Ret.)

  • "This book is a leadership masterpiece! Greg Woodard offers an in-depth and yet very readable guide to leaders who are seeking to lead well and be well. Through his compelling personal stories and substantial material, Greg brings his own heart and soul into this project. He clearly cares about the well-being of the reader, wanting them to leave impacted and equipped. Chapters reflect his holistic framework, offering thoughtful reflection questions and spiritual practices, as well as helping readers increase their self-knowledge through personality tests, leadership frameworks, and attachment theory. It is not a book to pick up once, but a tool to keep close for all Christian leaders."

  • "I am delighted to recommend this book written by a seasoned scholar‐practitioner. As a distinguished graduate of our Doctor of Ministry program at Regent University's School of Divinity, Dr. Greg Woodard brings a rare blend of academic insight, leadership depth, and real-world experience to this material. Greg's twenty-two-year military career (first as an enlisted Marine, then as a Navy chaplain) positioned him in high-stakes environments. His experience counseling sailors and marines, offering spiritual leadership in complex and often dangerous settings allows him to offer tried and true solutions to real-world problems. The book offers valuable insights for any leader, minister, or professional who longs to live and lead with intention, integrity, and holistic vitality. I wholeheartedly recommend this book for its richness, relevance, and reliable grounding in both theory and practice."
